  1. It is just as they tell you in flight school. You do feel the sputter before you allow yourself to hear it. There. Unmistakable. You do get calm and slow. What they don't tell you is how flippin beautiful it is. At least it is here. Close enough hovering in the now rocking, softly sputtering, almost silent ride, over turquoise water - so clear and close that I can see the pink of coral reef softly curving directly below - everything is slow, even my breathing in the heavy cockpit air. I see my hands on the navy blue of the chute straps - The don't tell you, that you feel disembodied from it all - that I'm looking at this brilliant mid-day blue that you only see in the Caribbean in summer - with the same feeling I'd have back down in town looking at one of the post-cards the tourists buy. They don't tell you, that the latch will be hard to push - harder than you ever might have imagined - and they don't tell you that it will be easy - simple really, to step into the air -because it won't be you, not really you stepping off as easy as stepping off that first time - well easier really than the first time you stepped off from the five foot board at the community pool back home - They never did tell you that you'll be stepping off - and watching yourself as you the water rushes up and they never did tell - that last thing you remember just as you're thinking everything will absolutely be just a-okay - just as you can just about feel the chute open and slow you down and the splash of the water salty on your face - they don't ever ever tell you that the last thing you'll remember is the blaring brilliant brightness of it all in that instant before all goes black.

  2. can't stand an empty prompt! ... sorry took an hour to figure out how to replace batteries in my wireless keyboard... needed to find a 12 year old on a YouTube video on my IPAD to demonstrate. This is just a raw response - but too sad to see and empty comment box! :)
