LASSERBY'S LEGACY

Nigel Lasserby knew his time was growing short.

In a gathhering of his closest friends and family members he informed them of his imminent demise and offered each of them a parcel; a memento by which to remember Nigel.

Inside his Great-Niece's package was half of a medallion and clues as to where the remainder of it was hidden. Brother Christoph had been given a book of quotations with many of the sayings highlighted with underlinings. Kenneth was Nigel's man-servant. His "prize" was a key to a safe deposit box that Nigel had kept at the bank. Lastly, Kitten, a buxom stripper who had befriended Nigel in his final days, received a note book with a series of random numbers.

Before he could explain each gift, Nigel was stricken by a fatal heart attack and died.

Write from the perspective of one of the recipients about your "inheritance" and see where it takes you.

Precious Time

For the next several weeks, my Wednesday prompt will center around the subject or concept of time.  In todays fiction, write about a scene where time is of the utmost importance and there never seems to be enough time.

Have a Ball

It’s baseball season and golf too. The basketball playoffs are in full swing. Tennis balls, bowling balls, footballs, soccer balls, ping pong balls, billiard balls …there are balls everywhere. Incorporate a ball somewhere in your fiction today because that’s the way the ball bounces.

Anachronisms Abound...

You are in an age where modern conveniences were mere pipe dreams. The telephone is tethered to the wall. Your music was heard over a console radio or through a record player. Posted mail took days to reach its destination. And your writing process involved one of these contraptions. You are writing  a "futuristic' piece where all of the modern versions of these scenarios come into play. The only catch is you must give these "inventions" different names than we have given them that are more descriptive to their purpose. Everything new is old again for your piece of fiction. Be as outlandish as possible. You may even taken a modern item and back date it in the same fashion. 

OMG! Did I just see what I thought I saw?!

These l'il kids were watching a puppet show.  Ohmigosh!  What just happened?  Whatever did they see?

Or write about wind. Or tornados. Just let your word winds blow (but don’t get too long-winded…remember, this is flashy fiction.)

(Notice that the über common words “see,” “be” and “a” are included…which basically means you could write anything flashy, and post it here!)
