A Different View

What do you see here? An eerie moonlit night? Maybe daytime in a different dimension or world?  Maybe it's simply a filter on a camera?  Maybe it's not a filter, but this is what the camera captured?  Write a little Flashy Fiction that puts your protagonist at the scene looking out between the trees, with or without a camera, with or without a filter.

Two for one quote day!

I apologize for falling down on my job last week.  You can ask Mr. Tuesday, I tried.  He was so busy getting his posts up that by the time it was my turn, we had lost internet connection on vacation.  So I have two for you today:

What is the first thing that comes to mind when reading this quote?  Write a story about it or try the next one:

Gazing out the Window

Sitting back in your comfy chair, man's best friend at your feet, gazing out the window.  Are you waiting for something or someone to arrive or simply enjoying the view?  Writing a little Flashy Fiction that puts your protagonist in this scene.

WHAT IF...?

Plans and schemes and hopes and dreams all converge to paint a scenario much different than the one we have. Or do they? There are times we live in this "What if?" life, where the green grass just appears more vivid. But it is not necessarily better Write your character's "What if?" life.

On Vacation

Ah, vacation!  A time to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relax...or find the hustle and bustle of vacation.  In this week's prompt, we're going to focus on the relaxing bit.  Whether catching rays at the beach, lounging poolside, or just taking in the view with a good friend, write a little Flashy Fiction about relaxing on a vacation.

In a Disused Graveyard

"In a Disused Graveyard" by Robert Frost

The living come with grassy tread
To read the gravestones on the hill;
The graveyard draws the living still,
But never anymore the dead.
The verses in it say and say:
"The ones who living come today
To read the stones and go away
Tomorrow dead will come to stay."
So sure of death the marbles rhyme,
Yet can't help marking all the time
How no one dead will seem to come.
What is it men are shrinking from?
It would be easy to be clever
And tell the stones: Men hate to die

Often, we find poems written in response to events, pictures, and other writings .  Today, let's reverse this and write a story based on a poem.  Read Robert Frost's "In a Disused Graveyard" above, mull it over a bit or write spontaneously, and give us a bit of Flashy Fiction based on this poem.

WHAT A CHARACTER!

Today's nudge asks you to construct a character. Flesh your protagonist out with as much detail as you can: with a back story, physical appearance, interests and such. This will be your "pawn" in the stories that ask you to write "your" character into the situations presented. Don't forget to name your new creation. It may come in handy!

Looking out my window on a dreary, wet and rainy morning, my thoughts are of nature's power. Write a situation where rain or any other weather phenomenon plays a major part in your tale. You could be a farmer dealing with drought when the rains finally come, or someone sick of the constant barrage of downpours or blizzards, and to what end they bring you. Stretch the limits of things purely out of our control, and tell the story that's inside you,,,

Can I quote you on that?

Since this is new for me, I am going to introduce myself.  I write children's stories that I ummm, have not yet published.  I also write for my own personal blog and I started making my own quote photos to use for my blog's Facebook page in order to inspire those around me.  I want you to look at the quotes I post and write a story that might have inspired the quote, or use it to make the type of character that evokes those feelings when you read it.  Be inspired:

Here Be Dragons!  Found on at least one (real-life) old map, this phrase serves as a warning to travelers that the area ahead is unexplored or that continuing on may lead to danger and death.  Write a little Flashy Fiction about a person or group who came upon the scene in the image above.  Maybe they chose to ignore a warning.  Maybe they never saw one.  How will this end for them?
