Calling America!

A giant antenna reaching up into the sky looms out of nowhere.  Who are they trying to contact?  Who are 'they'?  Write a little Flashy Fiction where the antenna figures prominently.

Love Among the Poetry Stacks

(Image: public domain)

You're browsing through the shelves of the poetry section at the library. As you select an ancient book of love poems, a note falls to the floor.  It is folded into fourths, and yellowed with age. You uncrease it carefully, and settle in to read, discovering it's an old love letter.

What does it say? Was it ever sent? Tell the story behind the letter.

TEN WORD INCLUSION

Sometimes our fiction is just words. Where they take us dictates our mood, or triggers a thought that we can expound upon. Fit these ten words into the fiction of your flashy mind. You dictate where we will follow!

Lucky Charm

Céad míle fáilte!  A hundred thousand welcomes seems a fit welcome to the week kicked off by Saint Patrick's Day.  The four-leaf clover has been associated with luck.  Today, write a little Flashy Fiction that involves a four-leaf clover or luck...or both.  Maybe your story will take place in Ireland or a field of clover.

Cause for Contrast

One may choose to be inspired and write from these image directly, (or not), but what I suggest is that in your piece that you create a distinct contrast within the imagery or emotional feeling within the writing. Explore opposites of any given concept, (such as happy and sad as an example).

NOT IN KANSAS ANY MORE!

With the recent release of "OZ: The Great and Powerful" the vision of L. Frank Baum gets a refreshing and more high-tech treatment. We know the tale of Dorothy Gale and her dog landing in an incredible place of fantasy.

Your mission is to get caught up in the middle of the twister and land in the "Mysterious Land of (INSERT YOUR PLACE OF BIRTH HERE)". What three characters (related to your home) do you encounter and write a brief scene to depict your imaginings.

There's no place like home.

Base your fiction today on the home.  Perhaps it is just being home or comin home from from a trip.  In any case, there is no place like home.

Hell on Wheels

Hey, how'd the Balrog get Barbie's Mini Cooper?  It's a Lord of the Rings vs. Barbie mash-up.  Write a little Flashy Fiction involving a crossing of genres or well-known stories, something like the werewolf account executive or garden gnome traveling salesman... maybe Jack Sparrow in a Delorean with a Flux Capacitor.  Mix it up.  Write a couple of them.  Have fun with it.

Where Are You Going?

Out onto the Lake?
Into rough waters?
Up a creek?
Do we have a paddle?

You're a palindrome, just like this kayak, both coming and going...the letter "I" spun into a sea of blue.
What will you do?

Write about your voyage. What's on the other shore?
Did you find peace? Treasure? Or are you looking for more?

Good vs. Evil ...or just some clouds

Good vs. Evil?
The Light vs. The Dark?
Or is it just the wind blowing the clouds off to reveal clear skies in time for sunset?
Write a bit of Flashy Fiction to paint this scene as an epic struggle or simply nature.

Planting a Moral...

(Image via Photobucket: beautifullybroken131)

n.
1. The lesson or principle contained in or taught by a fable, a story, or an event.
2. A concisely expressed precept or general truth; a maxim.

Feel free to employ this profound sentiment of Albert Einstein's or any other moral that impresses upon you in your piece of Friday Flashy Fiction today.

Happy writing!
