Sunsets

Sunset.  That time of day when part of the world is transitioning from their period of light to their period of dark.  Some find incredible beauty in sunset, a relaxing peaceful time of transition, while others fear the coming night. Sometimes, a sunset is a metaphor for something else.  Write a little Flashy Fiction about a sunset(s).

  1. MRS. MALOBECKI FADES

She remembers her afternoon; a time spent with friends willing to reminisce. A time to recommit to family who remained close. Edna Malobecki loved her afternoons.

But for as joyous as they were, she had dreaded the onset of night. The mornings lingered, she thought the afternoons would never come. The celebration of her midday brought all the best out of her. Her time was dwindling. She didn't remember much now, but she knew the elongated shadows on the wall meant night was near.

She sat alone in her room. Sequestered in solitude. her breath was shallow and her eyes no longer focused. Edna's voice was weak and her hands shook. The sun fell quickly. In the twilight of her years, Mrs. Malobecki was fading. When the horizon had completely devoured the sun, her life will have been consumed. She dreaded the onset of night.
