Five Multi-colored Rings

I wanted to use the Sochi Games logo, but, as it is rather uninspired, I found a picture of the rings with some of the world flags behind them to use instead.

It's that time again.  Time for (many) of the nations of the world to come together and compete in athletic events in a spirit of fairness and peace...hopefully.  This prompt is really open other than sticking with a Winter Games theme.  Write a little Flashy Fiction about the Olympics.  It could be about training for the games, participating in them, watching them, plotting to cause destruction during them, thwarting terrorism at the games, or whatever else comes to mind.  Maybe it's a story that is only linked to the Olympics because somehow the games or someone's preparation for it affected their life.  Stretch the scope as needed, only be sure to keep winter and the Olympics in there somewhere.  Have fun!

  1. True Colours?

There was controversy of what and who was being moved to make way
for the sports town. It wasn’t the first time and wouldn’t be the last time
that a country moved or hid the poor to put on a good show. The athleticism
in odd and even common winter sports should be both entertaining and
respected. But those who aren’t interested shouldn’t have it shoved down
    their throats.

Call me a Blue Meanie, or maybe I’m just yellow; chicken to even try some
of those impractical stunts. Don’t want to black out with sticker shock at the
cost of tickets and travel. Maybe I’m just green with envy, the man thought?
Seething with red hot anger at the politics that aren’t supposed to play any
part in the games, but you know darned well they do.

James White remembered all the times he was called last in school or at
summer camp. He just didn’t care at all about the latest winter Olympics.
Maybe it was partly because the show plow had just come through and
blocked his driveway for the second time in two days.

Exercise needs a practical application, Jim reasoned. Then he put on his
boots, grabbed his shovel and hoped that he wouldn’t exert himself enough
    to get a heart attack.
