Carmen struggled to picture sunbeams. Yesterday's request had vanished from the park sign and the pen dangled waiting for Carmen. It was hard to think without Ash.
Elisa, the neighbor's daughter, streaked through the trees. She dumped a bucket of water over the sign, rainclouds sprouting across the whiteness, jagged lightning bolts fading into the scene, accompanied by thunder.
"You want this?" A raindrop splattered against Carmen's eye.
"Dancing in the rain." Elisa skipped into the park, bare feet already stained.
Raindrops plowed through fresh dirt, exposing Ash's stark bones. A man's best friend shouldn't live so short a life.
