Down to the Wire

The Olympic games are now in full swing.  We see races won by a few hundredths of a second and competitions judged by hundredths of a point.  Today is a wide open prompt.  Write about an athletic competition, a race,  a narrow margin or about being judged.  Most of all,  have fun.

Do you feel fine? What do you want to do with the last of your time? Who’s left? What happened? Are there zombies? Whether you take this literally or symbolically – the end of a relationship, the end of your heart as you know it, the end of the line – get apocalyptic (not to be confused with apoplectic) on us, and write about it.

AND SOMETIMES FICTION IS STRANGER THAN TRUTH

Today, take an event in history (world history or your personal history) and write it as a piece of flash fiction. Change the names, places and whatever you need to to "protect the innocent" and give your story a surreal feel. And as always, remember: Everyone has a little story...

Not too long ago, I saw teenagers wrapped in duct tape walking waddling around an Austin mall. At first I thought it was a flash mob, but then came to the conclusion that they were just seeking attention on a Friday night. I have since heard about prom dresses made from duct tape. I saw someone driving a car that had been fixed with duct tape. There are so many uses for this sticky stuff that now comes in bold colors and designs. Use your imagination to write a flashy fiction piece involving this magical binding tape.

MONOCHROMATIC IS MORE DRAMATIC

When Dorothy landed in OZ, the colors enhanced her journey.

But, sometimes seeing things in black and white is more stark; more real.

Break your colored pencils and break away from how you envision things.

Get a feeling as if you are a Film Noir detective searching for a wealthy heiress that her husband wants left unfound.

Two twists: the husband is your twin brother, and you are color-blind.

Write me a flashy bit of mystery!

Time Travel

Continuing with the concept of time, let's incorporate the TIME TRAVEL into todays fiction.  Maybe there is a "way back machine" or perhaps just blinking the eyes gets it done.  Get creative with time travel today.
