When she walked out of the carpool lane, Greg couldn't see anyone else. He didn't know her name, but she was hot. Hot in the way that made you want to drop your jaw, not your pants. Like the pictures in the museum where the girl had all her clothes on, but you couldn't tear your eyes away even though you knew there was an exhibit of nudey pictures in the next room.
Greg nudged his friend Harry, "Hey Harry. You know her? You know her name?" Harry looked up from his phone and started to grin.
"Dibs!" They said it at the same time.
Greg hissed, "I called her first."
"No way in hell, dude. I'll fight you for this one."
And they did.
The girl startled as the noise grew and a crowd gathered, chanting Fight, Fight, Fight. She ran into the park across the street from the school.
Charles, who got to school late that day, saw her leave and followed her, wafting in her wake. A car screeched to a halt inches from his knee, but he didn't flinch. He followed the flash of movement between the trees and the rich smell of her perfume, slighlty spicy and pungent.
When the assistant principal found him, he was asleep on a bed of pine needles with one arm around the trunk of a tree, smelling faintly of sap.
