Friday Funkday

"First, why did you two break-up? Second, can I go out with him?"

  1. "First, why did you two break-up? Second, can I go out with him?" Betsy asked her BFF Lindsey.

“First, ‘cause he’s a jerk and second – well, I think you know the answer to that question already. Okay? ‘Cause that’s not what BFFs are all about. You know?”

Betsy glanced down at her sand colored Ugg boots. When her face came back up, she wouldn’t look Lindsey directly in the eye. “Okay, so, I don’t really think he’s a jerk, all right? And if you’re my friend, I’d think you’d want me to be happy. So, if that’s the answer, well, good.”

“Fine! Be like that. But when you find out just what a jerk he is, don’t come back here crying to me. And maybe you should think about finding another BFF, too!” Lindsey slammed her locker door shut.

"First, why did you two break-up? Second, can I go out with him?" Ellen asked her relatively new BFF Betsy.

“First, ‘cause he’s a jerk and second – well, I think you know the answer to that question already. Okay? ‘Cause that’s not what BFFs are all about. You know?”

Ellen glanced down at her baby blue Crocs with the funky heart Jibbitz in them. When her face came back up, she wouldn’t look Betsy directly in the eye. “Okay, so, I don’t really think he’s a jerk, all right? And if you’re my friend, I’d think you’d want me to be happy. So, if that’s the answer, well, good.”

“Fine! Be like that. But when you find out just what a jerk he is, don’t come back here crying to me. And maybe you should think about finding another BFF, too!” Betsey slammed her locker door shut.

  4. Janice said, You can have him. It seems that almost every girl at school has! I'm not into the whole patronizing a guy's ego. I want to be the one on the pedestal. Who told you we broke up anyways? Never mind, I really don't care. If you want some advice, stay away from Todd Christensen. He will only mess with your head. Leah was intrigued with the idea of going out with Todd. His blond hair and piercing green eyes just made her melt as it had with so many other girls. Maybe she was the one that could change him. Maybe he would change for her. While Leah was daydreaming about the possibility of a relationship with Todd all the sudden her books went flying and she could feel the cold cement on her face with sand grit in her nose.

I'm so sorry! Are you O.K.? As Leah started to get up a firm hand grabbed her and lifted her up. Mark asked again, Are you O.K.? Still a little dazed Leah said I think so? What happened? Mark explained,I was running late for class and ran right into you I'm so sorry. I'm new here and don't know my way around much. Great first impression huh. As Leah looked at him she checked out his medium built and dark walnut eyes. Something about him seemed familiar. As the second bell rang for class they said goodbye and parted ways. Leah went back to day dreaming once again about Todd.

That night Lean woke up in a panic. Her heart was racing as she began to remember the nightmare that woke her. She was in a dark room and she could see a familiar face. As she tried to remember more of the dream it faded as quickly as it came. She was at a loss.

  7. "In answer to your first question--why we broke up no longer matters to me," I explained to Jaime with a blank face.

I tried to maintain a casual attitude but the truth of it was I was extremely pissed-off and hurt.

"Oh really?" Jaime's raised eyebrows indicated a lack of belief. "And your 'indifference' has spawned this new look of yours; no makeup, hair a mess?"

It wasn't a question. It was fact.

I jammed my black Juicy Couture's onto my face and bit off a chunk of Snickers bar.

"Come on, Libby," pleaded Jaime, "we're best friends! Let me help. Besides, you know I was just kidding about wanting to go out with Sean."

"Fine." I spit out. "If you must know the gory details...I walked in on Sean making out with someone else at Jessica's party."

"Ouch!" was all Jamie could say.

"And in answer to your second question," I declared, " ask Sean out anytime."

"What?" my best friend was shocked.

"It seems Sean prefers your sex to mine, boyfriend." I blurted out. "I caught him making out with Roger Blake at the party."
